ROCKY & BULLWINKLE STATUE
About 20 years ago, I was doing the tourist thing in Hollywood. I wanted to see the hotel where John Belushi died. Little did I know, across the street from the Chateau Marmont, on Sunset Blvd, was an approx. 20 foot statue of Rocky & Bullwinkle. Oh, I had to get a photo of that. If you would like to see the photo, you can go to my website at this address, http://www.tvtoymemories.com/ROCKY_BULLWINKLE_STATUE.html. The statue was on a small lot with a building which was owned by Jay Ward (and later, his widow), which housed the Jay Ward Productions.
I have a colored pencil drawing of a humorous "amusement park" that Jay Ward wanted to put on that small lot. He loved making fun of Walt Disney & his tiny "amusement park" was a way to poke holes in the Disney image (let the hot air out.) The "amusement park" would have had a castle called "Dugon Land" (sic) & the pay phones would have been called "Phone Booth Land" The "amusement park" would have been called "Jay Ward Land". In the middle of the park was a flag pole with an attached Rocky the Flying Squirel, going around & around.
Jay Ward had commissioned architects to draw plans (which I also have) & also had the colored pencil drawing done. Highly unlikely, that he would ever pay money to build a silly "Jay Ward Land", but that was his sense of humor, which by the way, I LOVED. I was a HUGE FAN of Jay Ward.
