TV's SMOTHERS BROTHERS & GEORGE CARLIN - NY TIMES BOOK REVIEWS

The New York Times has written a nice book review, of two different books  The first book is a posthumous autobiography from George Carlin, called "Last Words." The book goes through his different stage personae during his career. He started with a "Good Boy" persona, with a shirt & tie, during the early 60's, which was his style when he appeared on the "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour." A 180 degree different George Carlin is the one most people remember, which was used during his HBO specials.. The book discusses the many demons that he had in his life including drugs.

The second book review is "Dangerously Funny: The Uncensored Story of 'The Smothers BrothersComedy Hour.' The book critic combines the two book reviews, with the fact that the Smothers Brothers & George Carlin were contemporary comedians and Carlin was a guest on the "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour." The book reviewer seems to be someone who truly appreciated the comedy work of Carlin and Tom & Dick Smothers.

Both Carlin & the Smothers Brothers were excellent at jabbing at the political establishment.

If I wasn't on financial life-support, because of the brilliant activities of "W" and his merry band of Washington DC pranksters, during the early part of the 21st century, I would definitely buy the Smothers Brothers book.

I have met Tom Smothers on several occasions & Dick Smothers on two occasions. I also have been in the front row of a concert that they had in Skokie, Illinois. Even in their "ADVANCED" age (I'm trying to be funny - in reality, they almost look & sound like they did 30 years ago) they were hilarious.

The first time that I met the Smothers Brothers was in Aurora, IL. I didn't attend the concert but I wish that I had. One of the audience members was Speaker of the House Denny Hastert. I'm sure they threw some sharp barbs his way.

I was at the back of the theatre & I saw two black SUV vehicles. I thought they were for the two brothers. I really didn't pay attention to the cars or the people that surrounded the vehicles, but they were eyeballing me. I was quite a distance from the vehicles, so they didn't feel I was that big of a threat. After they left, I found out from the Smothers Brothers limo driver that the two SUVs were for Denny Hastert  & his Secret Service detail.

I find it incredible that an insignificant politician (even if he was 3rd in line) like Hastert, had a detail. He was a replacement when "Eye of Newt" Gingrich resigned from the Speaker seat & his seat in Congress. The replacement for Gingrich resigned 1 day later (yah' think there was a sword over their heads - a little bit of DIRT. AHHHH, YEAH!!!) The powers-that-be (aka Tom Delay) needed a 'SAFE' replacement. Guess who they picked? An ex-Junior High School teacher, who had a big weight problem.
