JFK'S BEST POLITICAL TV COMMERCIAL - OR ANY OTHER CANDIDATE
Everybody has heard of the infamous "Daisy" commercial that LBJ aired. You can view that commercial at the bottom of this blog entry. That commercial played on people's fears (the same theme that "W" & his Merry Band of Pranksters used during 2004) but I can't believe that the LBJ campaign ad changed the mind of any voter, since it was only aired once. The only way that the commercial could change a person's mind would be if the ad were played countless times, on many different TV channels, along with countless political "talking heads" commenting on it. Fear tactics in advertising need to be reinforced. Unfortunately for LBJ's campaign, the "talking head" circuit of cable TV shows and radio shows, with so-called experts, didn't exist at that time.
"W's" loyal "talking heads," or more likely, another bodily orifice, were the major reason why "W" was reelected. He didn't have any track record to run on. What do you do? LIE LIKE AN OLD DOG. Commercials made by the 527 groups attacked & attacked and attacked. The fact that they didn't have the truth behind them, that didn't stop them. TRUTH IS ONLY WHAT THE TALKING HEADS TELL THE PEOPLE.
Very reminiscent of what Hitler did, during the 30's. He told the people over and over that their problems were because of homosexuals and Jewish people. Eliminate the problems and everything will be rosy. Most people didn't see the collapse of their rights until it already happened. Take OTHER people's rights away, it won't effect me. Unfortunately, the next group to be targeted just might be yours. Too late for you.
I'm not a fan of LBJ or "W." When I say that, I don't consider the two of them as being an equally terrible President. It is a matter of degree. On a scale of 1 to 1,000, with 1000 equal to the worst, my dislike of LBJ would be around 300. "W" would be in the 970 range. I find it incredible that Republicans will defend "W." I have never heard a single Democrat ever defend LBJ's lies about the need to escalate the Viet Nam war. Democrats tend to glaze over LBJ's administration, kind of like the fans of Star Trek "forgetting" about the 5th Star Trek movie, the one that Shatner directed.
I like that, that is a good analogy.
The main focus of this blog entry is a JFK ad, which was done in an unusual way. Upbeat musical tempo & repeat, repeat, repeat & repeat the candidate's name. Kennedy's name was said over 30 times, and it was printed on the screen many more times. Major rule of advertising. REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT!!!! Even if the commercial comes off as annoying, just keep repeating it. People will remember the name. They won't be able to get it out of their heads. Decide for yourself. The first commercial is the JFK commercial & the second one is the infamous "Daisy" ad.
JFK POLITICAL ADVERTISEMENT REPEATING HIS NAME, OVER & OVER, 30 TIMES
The ad aired one time, on September 7, 1964. It was on the NBC Monday Night movie. As I stated before, I can't believe a commercial that was shown one time would have that big of an effect.
Republican Senator Goldwater's response to the ad:
"The homes of America are horrified and the intelligence of Americans is insulted by weird television advertising by which this administration threatens the end of the world unless all-wise Lyndon is given the nation for his very own."
(Indianapolis, IN 9/29/1964)
I like Senator Goldwater, he was one of the MAJOR reasons that NIXON resigned. He told Nixon that there was NO support for him in the Senate. The only option would be to resign.
If we only had an honest & honorable Senate Republican during "W's" tenure, the world would be a lot better off.
