NINTENDO CEREAL - NOSTALGIC MEMORY OF A CEREAL

Poor Ralston, a cereal manufacturer trying to survive against Kellogg's, General Mills, Kraft/General Foods & even Quaker Oats. As a collectible, Ralston products were fantastic. The cereals that Ralston produced were licensed from popular culture TV shows, movies, video games. They would contract with anybody to make a cereal based on a pop culture reference. Their licensed cereal brands were only on the grocery shelves, for a very short time, which made it great for collectors of pop culture.

How many people remember Nintendo cereal? Probably a very small percentage. How many people actually ate Nintendo cereal? A far smaller percentage, that is for certain. The simple fact that the cereal was tied to Nintendo makes it collectible, but that didn't make it a great cereal.

Ralston sold their cereal line of non-licensed brands (Wheat Chex and Rice Chex) to General Mills, during the late 1990's. A little over a year ago, they acquired  Post cereal from Kraft Foods. Hip Hip Horay for collectors of cereal boxes, they're making cereal again.

Below is a Nintendo cereal advertisement, from a1989 comic book.

Believe it or not, I remember this cereal. I always loved Zelda's cereal better, but hated the game. I kind of wish they had made Donkey Kong cereal instead. I don't remember the commercial at all....

On a related note...do you remember when Quaker / Pepsi had the Mountain Dew game giveaway? They were giving away Pengo's and Zaxxon's?....

    Ah, for more simpler days.
