MA BELL MADE "ARMORED CAR" LOADS OF MONEY FROM 1950'S LONG DISTANCE RATES
I think of a sweet old gray haired lady, sitting in a rocking chair, when somebody uses the term "Ma Bell." Well, that mean old bi.... ah, that "sweet" elderly lady was raking in the big bucks, from the long distance phone calls, during the 1950's. Look at this magazine ad from 1956. The long distance rates are HUGE.
A 3 minute call from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. would cost $2.00, and that would be after 6 pm. That was a lot of money in 1956. No wonder the old lady had so much money to "WINE & DINE" politicians.

BELOW IS A COMMERCIAL FOR 10-10-220 LONG DISTANCE SERVICE OWNED BY MCI. THE RATES WERE 99 CENTS FOR CALLS
UP TO 20 MINUTES (LESS THAN 5 CENTS PER MINUTE.)
THE PRICE NOW IS $1.20 FOR 10 MINUTES. OTHER COMPANIES STILL CHARGE 4.9 CENTS TO 5.7 CENTS PER MINUTE. A LOT CHEAPER THAN 1950's MA BELL.
