JED CLAMPETT ACCUSES AN EAGLE OF THEFT OF HIS PROPERTY - A CIGARETTE PACK
Jed Clampett comes running into the cabin, and angrily tells Elly May that she should convince her pet eagle to stop stealing his cigarettes. The eagle already has a history of stealing Granny's mink coat. The multi-thousand dollar mink coat was an inconvenience, but when it stole Jed's cancer sticks, that was definitely going too far.
Looking at the crimes from the eagle's perspective. The eagle thought the mink coat was dead prey, which was completely understandable. CASE CLOSED. The criminal case of the stolen cigarettes is different. Obviously, the eagle was far smarter than Jed. The eagle was trying to save the life of Elly May Clampett's father. Elly May is the friend of critters everywhere, the eagle was trying to help a friend's relative. A noble creature doing a noble act. Jed wasn't bright enough to know that putting a burning roll of tobacco leaves in his mouth, coated with countless chemicals, was a BAD IDEA. The eagle knew that inhaling carbon monoxide and other DEADLY GASES was not a brilliant life extending plan Just the same, the eagle caved in.
Elly May was able to convince the eagle that Jed's millions would soon be hers. She told the majestic bird that luxury for it and all of it's relatives were only a few puffs away. A Beverly Hills mansion would be a perfect nesting location, for the eagle's potential newborn babies. The babies would love the warm climate. They would also LOVE the countless toy poodles, as potential dining experiences.
Elly May comes running back into the room, where Jed was waiting, and brings the pack of cigarettes. She doesn't say a word about the conversation that she had with her feathered friend, and co-conspirator. The deal that she made between the bird and herself will not be known to Jed. Elly May is silent and the eagle will only tell a few sparrows and robins, who are known to be able to keep a secret.
