FIRST 100 DAYS IN 2010 - ANOTHER GREAT TV ACTOR HAS PASSED AWAY - DIXIE CARTER A.K.A. JULIA SUGARBAKER

I loved the sharp-tongued character, that Dixie Carter portrayed, on Designing Women. Julia Sugarbaker was Dixie's invention. No matter how good the writing is, you can't put the nuances of a character on paper. Dixie transformed the two-dimensional character into a living breathing human being.

Dixie Carter acted the role of a Southern Belle, to perfection. Her acting skills allowed her to give Julia Sugarbaker a fictional set of testicles, but still allowed her to be feminine. That, ladies and gentleman, is what is referred to as: ACTING.

Dixie Carter passed away, on Saturday April 10, the 100th day of 2010. As a huge fan of classic TV, I will truly miss her. I have allowed certain actors to enter my home, via the television set, and as such, I consider them to be a part of my family. I'm not casually saying those words, I truly mean them.

Gene Barry, Pernell Roberts, Fess Parker, Peter Graves, Robert Culp & now Dixie Carter have passed away, during this early part of 2010. I hope we won't be losing any other fine entertainers this year. Thank goodness for DVD's, these entertainers will continue to live on.

As an example of Dixie Carter's excellent portrayal of Julia Sugarbaker, I have uploaded this very short clip, from Designing Women. It happens to be one of my favorite "Julia" moments. She is having a one-sided verbal catfight, with a current Miss Georgia World beauty contest winner. This woman had made some disparaging remarks about Suzanne Sugarbaker, Julia's sister, and an ex Miss Georgia World winner. The verbal barrage that Julia unloaded, on the unsuspecting beauty contestant, is truly priceless. I hope you enjoy this fine example of Miss Carter's work.
