THEY MADE DONKEY KONG CEREAL & PAC MAN CEREAL & NINTENDO CEREAL - WHY NOT MORTAL KOMBAT CEREAL?
General Mills produced Donkey Kong cereal and Pac-Man cereal. Ralston was the manufacturer of Nintendo cereal. Either one of those companies could of made a fortune producing a Mortal Kombat cereal. It probably would of had oat shaped spears & swords, along with red marshmallows in the shape of severed body parts. Pour on the milk, it turns BLOOD RED. The kids would have loved it and the parents would have screamed bloody murder.
I'm just joking.
This blog entry has been created to give a fond look, at an ANCIENT 1983 cereal brand. A previous blog entry has discussed Nintendo cereal. Today, I'm going to re-introduce you to General Mills Pac Man cereal.
License a popular video game, and then make a cereal that has ZERO connection to the game = BIG PROFIT. The American Dream. The General Mills Dream.
A con job on the American youth. Start by getting the little brats to whine to their parents. PLEASE BUY ME PAC MAN CEREAL, PLEASE. The second step is to have the parents pay a lot more money for a brand of cereal, that should of cost a lot less if it didn't have a licensed video game figure on it. VOILA, a two step process to complete the con job is complete.
The POWER OF ADVERTISING & LICENSING of popular icons is an amazing thing.
As a side note, isn't it amazing that the cereal aisle of a modern supermarket is almost bigger than a 1950's era A&P grocery store? I'm only slightly exaggerating.
General Mills created Pac Man cereal in 1983. It was a pre-sweetened corn based cereal with little marshmallows that were shaped like Pac Man.
