CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHY PEOPLE ROLLED UP THE CUFFS OF THEIR JEANS, DURING THE MID 1940's UP TO 1960?

In the past, I have posted a humorous look at 1970's era clothing. I poked fun at the outlandish use of VIBRANT COLORS and the amount of oil that was used to produce the fabric for the model's clothes.

Once again, fashion silliness has occured. Goofiness is timeless.

During the late 1940's, and going up to 1960, kids and adults had this overwhelming desire to wear jeans with each leg rolled up a few inches. Can anybody tell me how it started, and why it started?

Below is a magazine ad for Lee Jeans, from 1960. The first ad shows a family at an amusement park. The whole family seems to have an overwhelming need to protect their clothes from a potential flood.. The second ad is from a 1944 comic book. The ad is for Butterfinger candy bars, with a drawing of a child with her jeans rolled up.

PLEASE WRITE IN, and tell me what was going on in these people's heads.

I NEED TO KNOW!!!!
