WHY WERE GUNSMOKE VIEWERS FORCED TO LOOK AT AN INCREDIBLY CLOSE CAMERA SHOT OF MARSHAL DILLON'S BUTT EVERY WEEK?
This video is the opening sequence to Gunsmoke, with the Marshal having a shootout with a bad guy. We see the same camera shot every single week. The camera is about 18 inches off the ground, and is looking up at Marshal Dillon's butt. Are the producers trying to impress upon the viewers that Marshal Dillon didn't have any brown stains on his pants, prior to his gunfight? Are they trying to rope in the middle age female groupies? Were they trying to change the shows's demographic audience from mostly male to mostly female? Who knows? It definitely was not a pretty sight.
Right after the opening sequence, the sponsor's commercial was shown for that program. The sponsor was Total cereal, from General Mills. You know, the cereal that brings you 100% of all the recommended vitamins.
Wouldn't it have been cheaper to buy Kellogg's Corn Flakes and one bottle of One-A-Day vitamins? Obviously, Total cereal has extra vitamins added to the flakes. The cereal didn't naturally come with exactly 100% of the recommended levels of every single vitamin. Or maybe it did, The wheat that General Mills bought was SUPER WHEAT. Yeah, that's the ticket.
