This magazine ad is from 1955. I have done years & years of research (actually, seconds) to uncover the secret identity of this magazine model frolicking in the surf, wearing plaid swimming trunks. I have suceeded in my quest.

The classic TV show Home Improvement had a character, by the name of Al Borland, who loved plaid. It should come as no surprise that his father LOVED his plaid also. Less than one year prior to Al Borland taking his first cry, his dad was striking a pose wearing a LUMBERJACK SPECIAL. Also included in the ad, an entire ensemble of plaid pieces. Plaid for the nerd on the go: 1) swimming nerd  2) water skiing nerd 3) golfing nerd.
