NEIL PATRICK HARRIS - HUMOROUS PLAY ON DOOGIE HOWSER IN OLD SPICE COMMERCIAL - BUT HE WOULDN'T SIGN A DOOGIE PICTURE FOR ME
I met Neil Patrick Harris at a cocktail party a few years ago. While performing the requiste cocktail party conversational banter, I asked him to sign an item for me. He agreed until he saw that it was a picture of Doogie Howser. He didn't want anything to do with the character that MADE him into a star. At the same time, he was doing a TV commercial that played off of the TV character, Dr. Douglas Howser (a.k.a. Doogie). The commercial is for Old Spice and he states, "As a former TV Doctor...." Even tho he doesn't use the name Doogie in the ad, he still is using the image of the former character, by implication.
I just find it funny, he can't sign a photo of his old character (at a charity cocktail party) but he can make big bucks implying he was an ex-TV doctor. Maybe if I had a c-note stapled to the photo, things would have been different.
