AWARD FOR THE BEST CATSUP MAGAZINE AD IS A TIE - FANTASTIC AND VERY IMAGINATIVE
I love it when advertising people think outside of the box. Whether it is a magazine ad or a TV commercial, an ad that uses a large doze of BRAIN POWER will usually get my dollar at the cash register.
Posted below are two ads from different years. Just the same, I have placed them in competition against each other. They have tied for the most innovative and imaginative catsup magazine ad. The competition is the "First Annual Catsup Magazine Ad Competition Done Solely As An Exercise In Humor". "FACMACDSAAEIH", for short.
The first ad is from the World renowned condiment manufacturer, H.J. Heinz company, and was created in 1955.
How could you not love a DEEP RED ad with a giant tomato head in the upper right hand corner. The giant tomato head even has a monocle and a farmer's straw hat. Very imaginative.

The second ad is from a company that I desperately wanted to get information on. I found out that the company name was T.A. Snider Preserve Company and they were located in Chicago, during the period of time that this ad was made. The ad is from 1958. That is the total sum of the info that I found.
A company that is willing to place an ad using an actor, who is dressed as a devil, to be their spokesdevil, is a very imaginative company. The advertisement is attempting to market a hot catsup. They are associating the word "hot" with the devil.
Unfortunately for T.A. Snider Preserve Company, they do not exist anymore.
Imagination bites the dust.
