I USED TO LOVE JIMMY STEWART UNTIL I FOUND OUT HE WAS (GASP!!!) ULTRA-CONSERVATIVE
I'm goofy, I can't seem to differentiate between the role of an actor and their personal life. I'm not talking about the off-the-wall exploits of Tom "JUMP UP AND DOWN ON OPRAH'S COUCH" Cruise, or the anti-everything hatred of Mr. Lethal Weapon. Those people are definitely off my radar screen. I won't have anything to do with them. If one of their movies is on TV, or a new film is released for the silver screen, you will find me sitting home in front of the computer. I will stay as far away as possible, to protect myself from a possible contagious encounter. It is a well known fact - YOU CAN CATCH WHAT THE ACTOR HAS, BY SITTING TOO CLOSE TO THE SCREEN.
What I'm talking about are the movie stars that I used to love. I say that I used to love them because, I found out that they were ULTRA-conservative. A moderate conservative can be changed and is tolerable, an UBER - MUCHO - ULTRA conservative has seen the DARK SIDE and has been changed. A change that is permanent.
Jimmy Stewart is one of those actors that I used to love. Hey, anybody who was proud about his association with a six-foot, three-and-one-half inch invisible rabbit is my kind of weird guy. I see lots of things that other people have a hard time seeing. Jimmy Stewart's alter ego was a sweet and sensitive, invisible-rabbit loving, NUT CASE. Who couldn't love a actor / character like that? Well, I did love a actor / character like that, until, I found out his political leanings. Even his best friend, the ultra-liberal Henry Fonda, couldn't turn him from the dark side.
I do appreciate that General Jimmy Stewart didn't use his influence to avoid military service. Jimmy was a distinguished bomber pilot, as opposed to his other close friend Ronald Reagan, the ex-Democrat who turned to the Dark Side and became a RePUKEican. Little Ronnie Reagan "protected" his country by making military propaganda films in Burbank. "Supposedly" Ronnie had eyesight problems that prevented him from serving in a war zone. At least Ronnie didn't do the Dick "FIVE DEFERMENTS" CHENEY routine.
Getting back to Jimmy Stewart. I just can't forgive the man who brought such wonderful entertainment to the world. Like everybody else in this country, I have watched It's A Wonderful Life a million times. In addition to that film, I loved him in his last big-budget film The Shootist, starring another actor that I used to love - JOHN WAYNE. Yeah I know, everybody knew that John Wayne was conservative. But it was the degree of CONSERVATISM. Like I said, a "moderate-con" can be changed. A UBER-CON is permanent.
Posted below is a magazine ad for a movie that my ex-favorite old-time movie actor starred in. The ad is showcasing the infamous movie Harvey.
