A NICE WELL BALANCED MEAL MADE BY A POTENTIAL "MOTHER OF THE YEAR" - FIVE ICE CREAM FLOATS AND AN OPEN CAN OF GREEN GIANT PEAS
If this magazine ad was based on a true story, I would hope that Child and Family Services was called. In this 1955 ad for Green Giant peas, a mother asks her 5 year old son what he wants for dinner. Since the kid is a red-blooded sweet-toothed American boy, he told her that he wanted five different ice cream floats and peas. Surprisingly, his mother gave that meal to him.
Do you think, Mother of the Year nominee is appropriate?
The ad copy claims that the boy's mother said, "Well, at least you can have all the Green Giant peas you want." The five ice cream floats are closer to the boy and the can of peas is the furthest away. I'm guessing the can of peas will be eaten last. Granted, Green Giant peas are very good. They are not as good as an ice cream float to a five year old boy.
Maybe, Mother of the Century award.
I really don't think this was one of Green Giants better ideas. Maybe I am reading way to much into this ad, I think they really should have been promoting healthy eating and not going for something humorous.
