GENERAL ELECTRIC HAD A "NEAT" IDEA, IN 1955 - A WALL MOUNTED REFRIGERATOR - THE SIZE OF A CABINET
General Electric was definitely thinking outside the box. In 1955, they were promoting a new GE refrigerator which could be hung on the wall. It was meant to be a space-saver.
As a side note, my parents had a 1955 GE appliance that I believe was innovative, even tho it never worked well. They had a full size clothes washer, which was also a full size dryer. Both appliances were built into the same frame that a washing machine would be built in. Like I said, it never worked the way it was suppose to work. It didn't take GE long before they discontinued the model.
I'm told that there is currently a washer/dryer combo machine on the market. I hope it works better than the 1955 machine.
Posted below is the wall mounted refrigerator advertisement. I think it was very stylish and quite attractive. Until I saw this ad, I had never heard of the product. You learn a lot going through old magazines.
