IT SEEMS BOB HOPE WANTED TO PUSH HIS CHILDREN INTO THE LIMELIGHT - USED HIS KIDS IN A POPCORN AD

Nowadays, most celebrities attempt to hide their children from the unforgiving celebrity spotlight. Things must have been different in 1951. In the magazine advertisement posted below, Bob Hope is doing a cross promotion for Jolly Time popcorn and his movie, My Favorite Spy. The photo has a picture of a 48 year old Bob Hope (Bob lived to be 100) and three of his four adopted children.

It is fantastic that the children of Bob and Delores Hope have been able to enjoy the companionship of their parents, for such an unusually long period of time. Bob Hope died in 2003 at the age of 100 years and 2 months. Delores Hope is still alive at the age of 101 years and 2 months. Three of the four children are still alive. The young man in the popcorn advertisement passed away in 2004, one year after Bob died.

The posed photo for the ad has the kids "sneaking" popcorn under Bob's very large nose. Nora Hope, the youngest in the picture, seems to be a far better actor than her two siblings. Her ability to "steal" the popcorn while giving her Dad a side glance to guarantee that he isn't watching, seems to be a natural. She probably had a lot of practice in real life. Linda is also trying to "steal" the popped pop corn, while Tony is a "true thief", he is going for the "big score". Light-Fingered Tony has four boxes of unpopped pop corn that he is obsconding with.

In 1956, Bob and his very nervous teenaged daughter, Linda Hope, were guests on What's My Line. Enjoy the classic piece of TV history.
