OK, it really wasn't the Cowardly Lion that drinks beer. As some of you may know, Cowardly Lions don't like the taste of beer. The infamous Cowardly Lion was a wine connoisseur and especially enjoyed a nice cognac with his friends, Dorothy, and the Tin Man, on a cold winter night.

During the early 1950s, Cowardly Lion threw a number of fantastic Hollywood soires, which included an incredible selection of rare wines and wild game, that the Cowardly Lion caught in his own claws. Those parties were the talk of LA LA LAND.

It was the alter-ego of the Cowardly Lion that enjoyed his beer. Bert Lahr was a spokesman for Blatz beer, in this 1951 magazine ad.
