During 1944, TEENAGE GIRLS WERE A DIFFERENT BREED. THEY DREAMED ABOUT FINDING A PERFECT GUY AND HAVING A HOPE CHEST FILLED WITH MEMORIES

If you were a manufacturer of Hope Chests, during 1944, who would you hire to be your spokesperson? Well, Lane Furniture Company picked the most perfect young lady. Everybody loved Shirley Temple, so, the company chose the young 16 year old baby-faced teenager as their corporate spokesperson.

As opposed to most child stars, Shirley was able to continue finding roles in teen years and early adult years. America grew up with the little cutey pie and they couldn't get enough of her. If Shirley said that the Lane Hope Chest was the best on the market, you can be sure that millions of young women went to the store to buy one, simply because Shirley suggested it.

The 1940's was a different era. Young women wanted a perfect man and loved to keep momentos of their young lives. What better way to store those memories: A CEDAR LINED HOPE CHEST FROM LANE. This ad was aimed both at young soldiers, who wanted to buy something special for their special girl, and the young "hopeful" young lady, who will someday find the "perfect" guy.

THE WORLD WAS AT WAR AND LIFE STILL WENT ON.

IT WAS A ROUGH TIME.... IT WAS ALSO A SIMPLER TIME.
