LONG LOST TOPPING FOR NAKED ICE CUBES - CLASSIC TV COMMERCIAL

I was watching a TV ad for Ocean Spray Cranberry juice. The two guys that do the series of ads for Ocean Spray remind me of the two guys who used to do commercials for Bartles & Jaymes Wine Coolers. The folksy commercials were great. I always love an unusual ad, even if I have no desire for the product. Two middle age / elderly gentleman discuss new "adventures" in their lives, in a series of humorous TV ads.

Frank Bartles was played by David Joseph Rufkahr and Ed Jaymes was portrayed by Dick Maugg. Bartles always did the talking and Jaymes was the quiet one who would demonstate the subject that Bartles had just talked about.

As a side note, Mr. Rufkahr died in April, 1996, at the young age of 61. Prior to becoming HUGE TV STARS, Mr. Rufkahr worked at an advertising agency. Mr. Maugg was a contractor. Neither one of them had ever acted before their rise to TV iconic status.

I have posted my favorite Bartles & Jaymes TV commercial. Bartles is discussing possible uses for the wine cooler. Supposedly, a woman had written in to tell about using the wine cooler as an additive in the bread she baked. I don't know if it was added to the bread mix or the cook's gullet. Bartles continues talking about potential uses for the wine cooler and tells about the idea that Ed Jaymes had. Ed felt that Bartles & Jaymes wine coolers make a PERFECT "topping" for naked ice. They help to improve the "taste" of the ice and also help to improve the "look" of the ice.

That is a big problem - UGLY AND DISTASTEFUL ICE. Ed Jaymes has saved the world. Thank you Ed Jaymes for your contribution to society. Without any further adieu, here is my favorite ad, starring Frank Bartles & Ed Jaymes.
