COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATIVE FIRE DEPARTMENT IN RURAL TENNESEE IS ALIVE & WELL - STOOD BY WHILE HOUSE BURNS DOWN
I'm going to tell you a story about the South Fulton, Tennessee Fire Department, and the unincorporated areas that are near the department's boundaries. Even tho the area is in a Congressional District that is represented by a Democrat (covers a huge area including Memphis) it can be assumed the area, which borders Fulton, Kentucky, is conservative / GOP territory.
A man's house caught fire last week. It was located in an unincorporated area of Obion County. Residents who live in unincorporated areas near the town need to pay a $75 fee for the services of the nearby municipal South Fulton Fire Department, Service will not be rendered if the fee isn't paid. The man had not paid the fee and offered to pay the fee over the phone when he called 911. They refused to take the money. He wasn't purchasing an insurance policy, which needs to be in place prior to an "incident." He was paying a fee for services. Where is it written that the fee has to be paid a substantial amount of time prior to the actual need of the firefighting services?
Thank goodness the Police Chief doesn't think that way - MURDER SUSPECT SET FREE - VICTIM FAILED TO PAY $75 FEE AHEAD OF TIME. VICTIM OFFERED FEE, JUST PRIOR TO HIS LAST GURGLING WORD.
People like Glenn "Crybaby" Beck & Mr. Oxycontin like to defend the Fire Department. Typical MULTI- MULTI-MULTI-MULTI MILLIONAIRE value system. Help your fellow man by taking a "dump" on him - FREE FERTILIZER, YEAH!
I guess they have a right to refuse to drive outside the corporate boundaries to fight a fire. The thing is, the department comes out and does NOTHING. They stand by and watch it burn to the ground. Another example of the phoney-baloney COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATIVE ideals that "W" claimed that the Repukeicans stand for.
Who knows, maybe the victim of the house fire was a Democrat and the Fire Chief was a Repukeican. That is the way things are going these days. What if there were people trapped inside? Would the Compassionate Conservative Fire Department roast hot dogs & marshmallows while people were screaming for their lives?
In my area, there are agreements among different fire departments. If a fire overwhelms a municipal fire department a call to other departments can be placed. One hand helping another. The other departments don't require a FEE from the department requesting help. The Great Chicago Fire had departments from all over Illinois and Wisconsin fighting the blaze. Chicago was not required to pay a fee in advance to the other fire departments who sent men and equipment to fight a blaze, which was located outside their corporate boundaries.

Back in the old days, people would help each other. Not anymore. Don't pay the fee ahead of time - F.U. Typical George W. Bush COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATIVE ideals. Run a Fire Department like a money-grubbing corporation. Learn more lessons from the money-grubbing health insurance companies.
Reasons for refusing to put out a fire:
1) Pre-existing condition. (frayed wires or overloaded circuits was the culprit and existed prior to the fire)
2) Surpassed a yearly or lifetime cap for fire and paramedic services (can't help you, you call for HELP far more than your neighbors)
Somehow, I don't think that Ben Franklin, who started the first Fire Department in the U.S., would ever refuse to put a fire out because a fee was not paid. Even if the victim was located within the municipal boundaries of South Fulton, TN, and for example, he was behind in his property taxes. That is the difference between a liberal and compassionate man like Ben Franklin (you know, one of the guys who demanded the inclusion of the Bill of Rights into the Constitution) and your typical rural good-ol'e-boy Compassionate Conservative, who likes to run a government department like a FOR PROFIT CORPORATION.
