THE GREAT CHARACTER ACTOR ANDY DEVINE DOING A KELLOGG'S CORN FLAKES COMMERCIAL

Andy Devine was most famous for playing the role of Jingles, in the classic TV western Wild Bill Hickok.

The roly-poly actor was perfect for the job of a second-banana comedy-relief actor. He had a scraggly voice and an overweight appearance. He had a zero chance of ever playing the leading man. It is always the actors that are 10's & 1's that get the big bucks. The beautiful 10's are the big stars, and the unusual looking 1's are in constant demand to make the 10's look good.

Andy was in over 100 movies and was also the star of a kiddie show, which was called Andy's Gang. He was most famous for his comic relief performances in the kid-favorite TV western, named Wild Bill Hickok.  The Ying & Yang pairing of the handsome leading man Guy Madison, playing the role of U.S. Marshal Bill Hickok, and goofy looking Andy Devine, playing the role of Deputy Marshal Jingles Jones, proved to be very popular with children during the early to late 1950's.

For some odd reason, each one of the seasons of Wild Bill Hickok were only 13 episodes long. The show lasted for 8 years, with a total of 113 episodes. The show premiered on April 15, 1951, and left the air on May 16, 1958.

In Andy's later years, he was very happy doing voice acting. It was a way for an older actor to keep busy. One of the voice-over acting jobs was a commercial for Kellogg's Corn Flakes, playing the role of the iconic Kellogg's Corn Flakes rooster, Cornelius (Corny) Rooster.

For your enjoyment, I have uploaded an example of Andy Devine's unusual speaking voice, while portraying Corny. The video shows Cornelius taking a young boy on an adventure to meet a T-Rex dinosaur.
