CANADIAN PEANUT BUTTER MAKER USES TONY RANDALL AS A SPOKESMAN & A CHIMPANZEE AS A SPOKES-SIMIAN
I have never heard of York Peanut Butter. I saw this magazine ad with an image of Tony Randall poking his finger at a peanut, which is sitting on the top of an open jar of York peanut butter. My curiousity got to me. Unfortunately, there was very little information on the product. It used to be very popular brand, but it isn't available any longer.
They also have a huge base of collectors of used peanut butter jars and premiums. The company used to sell their product in collectible Pop Culture glass jars, along with premiums that promoted Star Wars, hockey players and many other Pop Culture references. That is definitely a company that I could love. Pop Culture is my middle name.
The company seemed to think outside of the box with their advertising. There didn't seem to be any connection between Tony Randall and York peanut butter. That is probably the reason why they chose Randall, not to mention that, Tony Randall's services probably didn't cost much.

Another CHEAPspokesman spokes-simian was used in this 1960's era TV commercial. Once again, I don't get the connection between a chimpanzee and peanut butter. The chimp is shopping in a supermarket and comes across a display of York peanut butter. The chimp is in love with the product and proceeds to fill his shopping cart with the delicious concoction.
When you think of peanut butter, what animal do you think of? I think of two peanut loving animals - ELEPHANTS & SQUIRRELS. I don't think of chimpanzees or Tony Randall when I think about peanut butter. I do sometimes think of Jimmy Carter - THE MR. PEANUT OF THE 1980's.
I guess it is easier to get a chimp to put jars of their product in the shopping cart. Having an elephant or a squirrel do it would have probably taken a few more "minutes" to accomplish the same feat.
For your enjoyment, I have posted the 1960's era TV commercial, starring the peanut butter loving chimp.
