PARTRIDGE FAMILY MEMBER CHANGES HIS ALLEGIANCE FROM KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES TO GENERAL MILLS BERRY BURST CHEERIOS

During the 70's, the Partridge Family did several commercials for Kellogg's, while they were in character as the Partridge Family. Posted below are two of those commercials.

On Thursday, May 29, 2003, David Cassidy switched his allegiance to General Mills Berry Burst Cheerios. The reason why? Cassidy had written a song titled "I Think I Love You." General Mills wanted that pop culture ditty as a tie in for the launch of their new cereal. The company also created a contest for amateur song writers to create an additional song for the new cereal. The contest was called, "Duet with David." The winner would sing with Cassidy at the Mall of America, in Bloomington, Minnesota. The winner would also win a Chrysler Sebring convertible, and a years worth of Berry Burst Cheerios.

I went to the Mall of America because the Mall management had said there was going to be an autograph signing with David Cassidy. He would be signing for the "peons" after he had an autograph signing and a meet & greet with the song writing contestants. The mall staked out a huge area for the fans of Cassidy. In reality, it was all a big LIE. Cassidy had no intention of signing for anybody, except for the contestants (he had to sign for them, it was in his contract.) At the time, I was a stockholder in General Mills (5 shares) and I wasn't eligible to enter the contest. I owned a teeny tiny part of the company, but I was considered to be a second-class person compared to the amateur song writers, who were accorded VIP status.

After the event was over, I attempted to get an item autographed by Cassidy that his step mother had previously signed, along with all of the other members of the Partridge Family band (minus Susan Dey.) Cassidy blew me off and walked away with 4 security guards. FOUR GUARDS? Does this guy have an EGO, or what? Thirty years after he was popular, and he thinks he needs four guards to fend off the hoards of fans. By the way, I was the only one that was following him.

I didn't stop in my quest. I knew where he was heading. I went outside the mall and went to a lower level where his car was waiting. Once again, I asked if he could sign the item that his step mother (Shirley Jones - one of the sweetest & nicest celebrities that I have ever met) had signed. He takes the Partridge Family paper doll and scribbles a humongous signature (supposedly his signature) over all of the other signatures. The scribble took up the entire front of the collectible. HE RUINED MY PIECE OF MEMORABILIA. In my humble opinion, he ruined it on purpose.

What a sweet guy David Cassidy is. Cassidy is at the number 3 position on the worst celebrities that I have met list.

1) Kate Jackson
2) Bill Murray
3) David Cassidy

Posted below is the original Berry Burst Cheerios commercial. The ad is a "love fest" between a Cheerios truck and a strawberry truck (a love match made in advertising heaven), along with Cassidy's song playing in the background.
