ADORABLE MID 1960's "LIFE" CEREAL COMMERCIAL - DEBATE WITH GOLFER BILLY CASPER & A KID - POINT & COUNTERPOINT

This commercial is from the mid 1960's. Pro golfer Billy Casper is known for eating buffalo steaks. In this commercial, the famous consumer of exotic animals is a celebrity spokesman for Quaker Oats Life cereal.

Quaker Oats, the ex-Chicago company, (iconic Chicago company before the big, bad Pepsi Company bought it) made several different ads with different debaters on each commercial. The series of commercials would be done in a point / counterpoint debate format. A celebrity adult would make the point that the cereal is nutritious, and the child would defend the counterpoint argument. The child didn't care about the nutrition. The most important thing was that the taste of "Life" cereal was fantastic. The ads were done in a light hearted style.

In this particular commercial, Billy Casper explains his reason for enjoying "Life" cereal. The little boy, who is identified as George Newall, points out that anybody who is famous for eating buffalo steaks doesn't know anything about food. The camera shows a closeup of Casper with a big smile on his face.

I have seen that kid on TV before. I typed the name of George Newall on IMDB.com, and a writer for Schoolhouse Rock had that name. It is possible that is the same person, but it doesn't list any acting credits. The IMDB wouldn't list a TV commercial as an acting credit, but like I said, I have seen that kid on some TV show. It really drives me crazy when I can't identify an actor that is familar to me.

Well, here is the great 1960's TV commercial that I was talking about. I love the style of 60's cereal commercials. A soft sell ad was the perferred method of selling, as opposed to the incredibly fast paced, loud and flashy style of TV ads that are seen on television today.
