Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of the highest grossing films in history after it has been adjusted for inflation. The film grossed $66,596,803 in it's intial 1937 / 1938 run. Three additional releases (1983, 1987 & 1993) produced an additional $118,328,683 in gross revenues. The $118,328,683 is equal to $873,090,006 in 2011 dollars, and it is number 10 on the biggest box office film list.
All of this boring money talk (boring, because it isn't MY MONEY) is being printed in this blog so that I can make a point. Posted below is a movie theater newspaper ad, from April 1938. The ad is promoting Snow White, and it lists the ticket prices. Evening prices are 35 cents, matinee prices are 25 cents, and children had to pay an incredibly low price of 15 cents, to be able to see a future-to-be iconic cinematic masterpiece.
Those 1938 evening movie ticket prices are approximatly 1/25 of the current movie ticket price. Until Gone With The Wind came out in 1939, this movie was the box office champion of all time. But, like I said, since it isn't MY MONEY - WHO CARES.
