TV STAR & MOGUL TV PRODUCER - DANNY THOMAS SHILLING FOR POST CEREAL (PROBABLY NEVER ATE A BOWL OF THE STUFF IN HIS LIFE)

Danny Thomas was a spokesman for Post cereal. The company looked for a "family guy" type of spokesman and found a perfect specimen - A REAL LIFE NIGHTCLUB COMIC, WHO PORTRAYED A NIGHTCLUB SINGER ON A TV SITCOM.

Thomas had a funny family sitcom during the mid 1950's, until the early 1960's, which was known as Make Room For Daddy, and was later changed to The Danny Thomas Show. Thomas was a great spokesman, and was able to "move" the General Foods company products simply because he was a likeable guy. The audience wanted to believe him when he advocated the benefits of Post cereal.

Posted below is a fantastic 2 page ad for Post cereal and Tang. Danny Thomas, Betty Hutton & Ann Sothern (the voice of the car in the worst sitcom in TV history - My Mother The Car) are promoting the perfect breakfast - POST CEREAL AND TANG.

Even though TV star, Betty Hutton was born in Battle Creek, Michigan (home of the Kellogg's headquarters &  a Post cereal plant) I doubt that she or the other two stars ate the delicious General Foods products. I really can't visualize Danny Thomas pouring a big bowl of Alpha Bits for himself, along with an ice cold glass of TANG. In my humble opinion, he probably was a steak and eggs type of guy, not to mention the Bloody Mary that he probably needed to wash it down.

On a side note, Ann Sothern made a self deprecating quote about herself, and at the same time puffed up the quality of the current crop of actors. The following is a quote from the famous TV star & movie actress:

"Sometimes I'll watch an old movie on television and, once in a while, one of mine -- such as April Showers -- will come on and I'll watch it. And you know something? I'm always amazed at what a lousy actress I was. I guess in the old days we just got by on glamor."

"Hollywood sold its stars on good looks and personality build-ups. We weren't really actresses in the true sense. We were just big names--the products of a good publicity department. Today's crop of actresses and actors have real talent. Good looks are no longer an essential part of the business."
