THE GREAT 1958 LEBANON - JEWISH WAR. FUNNYMAN JACK BENNY GUEST STARS ON "THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW."
Even in sitcom-land the Jews and the Arabs have arguments. Fortunately, in sitcom-land the arguments don't involve tanks and missles. The argument, between the two comedy legends, was about who would be performing entertainment for the Cub Scout Troop of Danny's son Rusty. His son had roped Jack Benny into doing the show, and Danny tried to let Jack off the hook. Danny's method of letting Jack down gently was by telling him that New York kids were used to a more sophisticated comedy routine than what Jack usually delivered. Jack replies, "What am I, Pa Kettle?"
Who said that TV wasn't educational? Hopefully, Israel & Lebanon can learn something from this sitcom clip. You can get angry - but still remain friends.
I hope you enjoy this piece of late 50's TV history. The funniest part is after Danny leaves the room, and Jack has a conversation with the room service guy. Jack does one of his famous "cheap guy" bits when a free bottle of champagne is delivered. Classic TV experience.
