GRANNY LIKES THE REO LAWNMOWER SO MUCH - HER PETTICOAT IS SHOWING WHILE PUSHING THE LAWNMOWER AT A FULL RUN
Boy, I wish I had a Granny that loved mowing the lawn.
This is the type of ad that I love. This is an ad that uses humor to express the quality of the product, and the supposed lack of difficulty that it takes to use the advertised item. An image of Granny mowing the lawn at a full gallop, with her petticoat flowing in the wind, definitely implies that the lawnmower is very easy to use.
Basically, we are talking about a LITTLE WHITE LIE - ADVERTISING STYLE.
This ad is from 1951, and it is from the lawnmower division of the parent company - REO Motors. The company was formed by the former owner of Oldsmobile. REO were the initials of Ransom Eli Olds, who was an automobile legend, during the late 1800's - 1920's. After leaving the Olds Motor Works Company, he went out and formed the REO Motor Car Company.
