MY UNCLE (AKA "DIRTY OL'E MAN - JUST JOKING) AND JANE RUSSELL

A few years ago, I took my 80+ year old uncle to meet Jane Russell (1940's - 1950's movie sex symbol.) I decided to take a photograph of my uncle seated next to the infamous sex symbol / protege of Howard Hughes.

Mr. Hughes signed Jane to a seven year contract, and put her in the risque film, The Outlaw. The film was finished in 1943, but was not released until 1946. The reason for the delay was that the movie couldn't get a favorable censorship rating. My hero, Howie Hughes released the film without the coveted rating, after he repeatedly tried to change the minds of the dirty-minded ratings board members.

Howard Hughes did everything to enhance the risque nature of the film. He even used his talents of designing aircraft, by designing an underwire bra to lift Jane Russell's "ample mounds of flesh." Even tho Howard designed the bra for Jane, she didn't like the look of it, and she decided to use her own bra during the making of the film, with the straps pushed down. (according to her autobiography.)

Jane was also in a famous film that co-starred an infamous "dirty ol'e man." Groucho Marx and Jane Russell starred in the film comedy Double Dynamite

I'm sure there wasn't any  DOUBLE ENTENDRE meanings in this movie!!!!

I made a closeup of the top picture, from the advertisement that is posted above, to prove the "Dirty Ol'e Man" status of Groucho. He is attempting to steal a nonchalant glance at "MOUNT JANE RUSSELL." Jane is "supposedly unaware of the "DIRTY THOUGHTS" that are being aimed at her.

When I took my uncle to the photo session, with the buxom 80+ year old movie star, he duplicated the same pose that Groucho had made, and I'm almost sure he had no memory of the film, and I am 100% sure he had no knowledge of the movie advertisement that I posted above. He was just being silly - in a fun, and juvenile sort of way. By the way, Jane seems to be oblivious to the "DIRTY OL'E MAN" thoughts that my uncle was aiming toward her.

As a side note, the first time that I met Miss Russell, I had her sign the front page of a Buttons and Bows movie sheet music, from the Bob Hope movie Paleface. On the front of the Buttons and Bows sheet music, Jane wrote that Bob Hope used to call her by a nickname. The nickname that he used for Jane was a perfect fit - both for Jane's physical attributes, and for Bob Hope's juvenile "little boy" personae. The name that he came up with was - "LUMPY."

Two other famous lines that Bob used when introducing Jane Russell:

1) "The TWO and only Jane Russell"

 2) "Culture is the ability to describe Jane Russell without moving your hands",

Posted below is the sheet music that Jane signed
