FAMOUS "BLUES BROTHERS" SCENE REVISITED - PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE ACTUAL LOCATION
I was working the graveyard shift in Wauconda, Illinois, when they were making the movie THE BLUES BROTHERS. After I got off from work I was driving past the intersection of US Hwy 12 & IL Hwy 176, and I saw a dozen Illinois State police cars parked on the embankment of the intersection. It was very odd - just the squad cars parked on the hill, and nothing else. I didn't put two & two together until I got home.
Well, DUHHHH!!! It was too late then. The squad cars were on the embankment because of the filming of the second best car crash in the film.
The film came out in 1980, which means that it was being filmed in 1979, and that is almost 1/3 of a century ago - a very long time ago. God, I feel old, it seems like it was just yesterday.
For your information, the best cop car crash was later in the film, when the Blues Brothers roared into the city limits of Chicago, and they took Lower Wacker Drive to get to the Daley Center, where they needed to go in order to pay the property taxes of their childhood orphange.
The best car crash of the movie (in my opinion - any movie) occured on Lower Wacker Drive, where the director had dozens of Chicago cop cars ramming into each other. Multiple cars were piled on top of each other. The cops got out of the squad cars, and started shooting indiscriminatly (kind of typical, in my humble opinion) towards the direction of the Bluesmobile. FUNNY STUFF.
Below are still pictures of The Blues Brothers movie scene, which is showing the Wauconda, Illinois filming location of the State police car crash scene. I have also included a movie clip of the famous scene.
When the squad car flies into the side of the semi, that movie location was several miles away. I will be taking a picture of that location in the near future.
I hope you will enjoy it.
